Bridges to Community

Infrastructure & Sanitation

The Infrastructure & Sanitation Program supports families who do not require new home construction but need essential repairs to improve safety, hygiene, and overall living conditions.

For these households, BTC provides targeted infrastructure improvements such as structural repairs, security enhancements, water filtration, and exterior painting, particularly when existing homes are larger than the BTC housing model. In addition, the program addresses critical sanitation needs, as many families lack a private or safe latrine, rely on deteriorated or shared facilities, and face increased health and environmental risks. Due to limited economic resources, these families are unable to build adequate sanitation systems on their own, so BTC constructs cinderblock bathroom units with a shower, hand sink, and septic tank, ensuring a dignified, hygienic, and sustainable solution that improves health, safety, and quality of life.
House Repairs

In addition to new home construction, Bridges to Community also repairs existing homes to support families that do not have their own construction, alleviate space concerns in homes that have multiple generations living under one roof, or improves housing with specific repairs that greatly improve it sturdiness and security.

  • Repairs include pouring cement floors for homes that have dirt floors and installing metal frames, doors, and windows to replace wood doors and windows.
  • Repairs will improve security and hygiene, as the existing doors and windows that will be replaced are weathered and rotting. Cement floors will allow for a cleaner and more hygienic household and will prevent flooding during the rainy season.
  • Costing a fraction of the price of a new build, house repairs benefit dozens of additional community members with dignified housing.
