Irma, 42, and Irminia Reyes Lorenzo, 38, are sisters who've spent their whole lives in La Loma del Yaque, living in the same family home that's now falling apart. A zinc roof tied down with rope just to keep it from blowing off in a storm. No proper bathroom and rooting wood.
Together, they raise four children between them and get by harvesting guandules, work that barely covers food and basic needs. Through it all, they've held onto one hope: a safe, dignified home where their kids can grow up without fear.

Euclides Montero Monthero is a university student, translator, and entrepreneur. He was born in Hondo Valle of the Elías Piñas province near the Haitian border on September 1, 1989.

He is the 4th of nine siblings and is now a husband and father himself, a proud dad of three sons. Euclides' hobbies and activities also include sports, farming, and producing coffee.
Nahbi Vicioso
My name is Nahbi Gemali Vicioso Solís. I am 26 years old and I am originally from San Juan de la Maguana, Dominican Republic, where I currently live. I hold a degree in Physical Education, a field that reflects my passion for sports and overall well-being.
I am married and I am the eldest of three sisters, which has helped me develop a strong sense of responsibility and family commitment.
In my free time, I enjoy practicing sports, an activity that is an essential part of my lifestyle. I consider myself a supportive, friendly, and empathetic person; I enjoy listening to others and helping those in need.
About the Community
San Juan de la Maguana is located in a broad valley surrounded by mountain ranges. Known as the country’s agricultural heartland, approximately 85% of the province’s land is dedicated to farming, particularly beans, rice, and corn. The region’s fertile soil and open plains make it a vital contributor to the Dominican Republic’s food supply.
The climate is generally hot and sunny, with average daytime temperatures around 85°F (29°C). Due to its elevation and surrounding mountains, evenings tend to be cooler, especially after sunset. Rainfall is seasonal, resulting in lush, green landscapes during the rainy months and drier conditions at other times of the year.
San Juan is a predominantly rural province with limited infrastructure, simpler accommodations, and fewer commercial amenities. Visitors should be prepared for basic conditions, intermittent electricity, and limited internet access.
