Welcome to Bridges to Community

sunBridges to Community is a non-profit community development organization. Our challenge is to create a world where basic needs are treated as human rights: shelter, nutrition, education, healthcare, and employment. We work to meet this goal by bringing groups of volunteers to live in materially poor communities where they work on our ongoing community development projects. There are lots of ways you can take part, and lend a hand to bring that world closer.

Facing Challenges on a Bridges Trip

As many experienced Bridges volunteers may know; a new volunteer coming to Nicaragua from the United States may face many challenges; dealing with cultural differences (culture shock), dealing with the sticky heat, lack of understanding, experiencing a new language, a first look at a “developing” country, etc.  However, one of the biggest challenges that a new volunteer may face is getting comfortable using the latrine! read more

But now, years later, it is easy to see that Bridges has not only impacted me but all the communities where they work. So many families including mine are so much better off," states Jimmy. read more

Mariela Goes to Medical School

During his tour of Nicaragua, Kevin and I paid a visit to our Siuna site. We went out to the community of Santa Rosa where Bridges has worked for 5 years in agricultural, health, education and housing projects. To get to this community you have to walk 20 minutes and then cross a river in a dug out canoe (one of the groups' favorite activities). After arriving at the banks of the Wani River we yelled "wooooh"- the standard signal that one has arrived at the river and the needs a lift to the other side.
