Duane Smith

Mr. Smith is the English department coordinator at Byram Hills High School in Armonk, NY, where he has been teaching since 1998. He coaches the girls varsity swimming & diving team and serves as the faculty advisor for the Habitat club. In 2003, he started an Alternative Spring Break for seniors with Bridges to Community and has been leading annual trips ever since. Over the years, he has taken students to Ticuantepe, Masaya, and Siuna.

In July 2006, Mr. Smith traveled to Kenya as part of a Greenbelt Safari. In an effort to learn Spanish and surfing, Mr. Smith lived in San Juan del Sur for a summer. Mr. Smith plans to continue leading trips with Bridges and hopes to inspire other educators to see the value in service-oriented learning experiences. In his spare time, he enjoys vacationing in Cape Cod with his wife, Kimberly, playing golf, watching Red Sox baseball games at Fenway Park and curling. Mr. Smith has served on the board of directors since 2005.
